about

This is inspired by my move to Hudson trying to better myself and my music. I moved here at the behest of Evan Cory Levine. We worked at Club Helsinki and hosted the open mic there together.

There is indeed a lot of architecture and acupuncture and yoga in this town. But this becomes sort of a stretch of the truth for the purpose of drama. I have never taken liberties with anyone's sensitivities or read Jane Austen—and I have no idea what's in a hot toddy. I just like the sound of it. And the somewhat alliteration of latte hot toddy. The ending, "I'd like to be less selfish," comes from the fact that sometimes I am more selfish than I'd like to be. So maybe that's not stretching the truth. Well, the truth is sometimes Evan and I would bicker while hosting the open mic and I'd feel bad. I guess it sounds sort of Morrissey-esque, but not sure he would admit to being selfish.

The line in the second verse is "Brooklyn girl" but with a phony Brooklyn accent to rhyme with "style" in the first verse, which I think is funny because no one in Brooklyn actually talks like that anymore.

"The window of the World Wide Web" comes from the Burt Bacharach song "The Windows of the World" and I guess that line is about spending too much time on Facebook.

Evan did a really great job recording, producing, and mixing this.

Nathanael Bluhm's voice is in the backing vocals with mine, but you can't really tell because our voices are so similar. I imagine it sounds a little fuller though.

lyrics

Well I wonder what philanthropy
the town of opportunity can do.
There's the architecture from the past
and acupuncture after yoga class.
There's my best friend Evan
and people of every style.
There's that magic in it—
music in it—
and I love to love my town.

I've got a secret passion—
one of a kind.
Between all my books and covers,
it is matter over mind.
I've got a best friend Evan.
I love him so.
I've got a best friend Evan and we put on a little show.

I've been taking liberties with ladies' sensitivities
a lot.
I quote my soliloquies from 'Sense and Sensibility'.
A latte or hot toddy.
A Hudson or Brooklyn girl.

I throw my time
out
the window of the world wide web
and see how far it flies.

There's that magic in it—
music in it—
and I love to love my town.

I've got a
secret passion—
one of a kind.
Between all my books and covers
it is matter over mind.
I've got a best friend Evan.
I love him so.
I've got a best friend Evan and I ain't ever let him go.

I've got a best friend Evan.
I've got a best friend Evan.
I've got a best friend Evan and we live in a little
town town town town town town town town town town town town town town town town town.

I'd like to be less selfish.
I'd like to be less selfish.
I'd like to. I'd like to. I'd like to.
